Cathie’s Cat Grooming

About Me:

A bit about me and how I work.

I am a veterinary nurse with over 20 years experience and am capable and confident I can handle and groom most cats. I have a Bachelor of Animal and Veterinary Bioscience and Feline behaviour qualifications, and am pursuing further studies in this area.

I will give advice on preventative health, tell you if I think your cat needs to see a vet, recommend environmental enrichment for your cat and discuss any needs your cat has grooming wise and behaviour wise.

I have worked in a variety of veterinary clinics including animal welfare and this  influences the way work with and handle cats for grooming.

I will groom senior cats, cats with medical problems, and cats that have been sedated, using Gabapentin - supplied under veterinary care, as I will monitor these cats carefully throughout their grooms to ensure they are well and stress is low.

I believe in low stress handling so I tend to go slowly and patiently and give the cat regular breaks, and work within their tolerance levels..

Some cats will require multiple short sessions, to acclimate them, but this is determined on a case by case basis at the time of grooming

I use pheromone spray to help relax the cat and gain their cooperation. Bribery is rampant.

I have a variety of techniques and tricks I try, as well as some equipment to help keep both the cat and myself safe.

As a mobile groomer I have my own table and equipment. Although I do a lot on the floor, and this is my preferred way of grooming.

I would require the use of small room, with a secure door and access to a power point.

do solo groom a lot of the time but I am happy for an owner to be present and sometimes do need assistance in holding or distracting a cat.

If cat is to be bathed I will need access to warm water. As a mobile groomer bathing is not always possible. It depends on the cat. Drying fully cannot be guaranteed, this takes time and cats need to get used to a dryer.

Please note: My prices are in line with the time, patience and skill that cat grooming, particularly awake ones, takes. They also reflect that I am a mobile groomer, coming to you so include vehicle/petrol costs. Prices vary depending on service and condition of cat.

I travel an area of roughly 20km from Coburg in the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne.

If your cat cannot be groomed for some reason, a call out fee does apply. It is $50.
